MORE ABOUT WOOL AND GENUINE SHEEPSKIN
AND WHY IT REMAINS THE BEST CHOICE…
Wool, a "miracle fiber," possesses unmatched properties not found in synthetic alternatives. Its thermal insulation traps air, maintaining consistent temperatures. With exceptional moisture absorption, elasticity, and fire resistance, along with hypoallergenic qualities, wool remains an exceptional and unique natural fiber.
WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE?
What sets our slippers apart from most other producers is their distinctive characteristic of being fully lined with pure wool, without any synthetic materials. This exclusive feature guarantees an entirely natural and genuine sheepskin experience that distinguishes JCP Sheepskin products from the rest.
THE MANUFACTURING OF OUR SLIPPERS
JCP buys raw sheepskins from local farmers and hide traders, which are then tanned at our facility in Breyten. The sheepskins are a byproduct of the meat market, so the sheep are not slaughtered for their skins but for the meat. We use the wattle-extract method for tanning the sheepskins. This process involves using natural, plant-based tannins to permanently preserve the skins as leather.
Wattle-tanned leather is 100% organically tanned and biodegradable. It is a much more environmentally friendly tanning process compared to others that typically involve heavy metals.
The tanned skins are then dried in the sun and subsequently softened, knitted, cut into patterns, and stitched together by our seamstresses to create the final product, which is the slippers. The drawback of this tanning process is that the tanned skins have a natural shade of cream/beige and cannot be colored to produce a variety of colored slippers as offered by our competitors.
SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT WOOL
Wool, often referred to as a "miracle fiber," possesses unique properties that have yet to be replicated by synthetic alternatives.
One of wool's remarkable attributes is its ability to provide excellent thermal insulation. The natural structure of wool allows it to trap air between its fibers, effectively preventing heat loss or gain.
Moreover, wool has exceptional moisture absorption and evaporation capabilities. Its porous fibers can absorb up to a third of their weight in moisture, and the inherent porosity facilitates efficient evaporation. This quality ensures a comfortable, dry skin and helps maintain a consistent body temperature.
In terms of comfort, wool exhibits elasticity and resilience. The inherent strength of wool fibers acts like small springs, distributing body pressure and reducing the formation of pressure points.
Another significant advantage of wool is its natural fire resistance. Wool fibers possess inherent properties that make them less prone to catching fire, providing an added level of safety.
Lastly, wool is known for its hypoallergenic properties. Scientific studies have not found any evidence of people developing allergies specifically to wool. This makes wool a safe and suitable choice for individuals with sensitivities or allergies.
In summary, wool remains unparalleled in its combination of thermal insulation, moisture management, elasticity, fire resistance, and hypoallergenic nature. Its unique properties make it a truly exceptional natural fiber.
The secret of wool thus lies in the structure of the wool fibers, which is a natural thermal isolator, absorbs and evaporates moisture, maintains resilience, resists fire and is non-allergic.
PROPERTIES OF GENUINE SHEEPSKIN
A genuine sheepskin is derived from the food industry as a valuable by-product, avoiding wasteful disposal. Instead, these sheepskins are carefully tanned and repurposed to create various sheepskin products.
The authenticity of genuine sheepskins is evidenced by their natural variations in texture and color, serving as an inherent guarantee of their true, natural origin.
Furthermore, genuine sheepskins possess remarkable qualities. They are inherently durable, lightweight, and incredibly soft to the touch, providing exceptional comfort.
In addition to their desirable properties, genuine sheepskins are environmentally friendly. Being biodegradable like other natural materials, they naturally decompose over time, returning to their composite elements.
It's worth noting that a genuine sheepskin is not simply two pieces of material glued together. Instead, it is a unified piece, devoid of any artificial components or synthetic linings commonly found in imitations. While synthetic alternatives may be sold at lower prices, they lack the genuine quality and authenticity of a true sheepskin.
